In late 2016, WWE announced that they would be launching NXT UK. Nearly three years on, and WWE is currently trying to open another developmental territory outside of the US.
Rumours have emerged suggesting WWE wants to open NXTs in Germany, Saudi Arabia and Australia, but it has been reported that launching an NXT in Japan is a top priority for WWE right now.
Dave Meltzer has stated in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that despite it proving to be challenging, WWE is desperately trying to launch NXT Japan:
“WWE has been attempting to make moves to set up NXT Japan but it’s become very difficult due to Japanese culture. But that was very high on the priority list and a lot of deals were offered and looked into”.
In his report, Meltzer notes that WWE has offered “a lot of deals” to try and help with the launch of the new brand.
There is no word on if these deals were offered to backstage staff or in-ring performers, or even which specific people the contracts were offered to.
