It was reported by WrestleVotes yesterday that AEW higher-ups were considering adding an on-screen authority figure to Dynamite to book matches and help with the overall running of the show.
While nothing was officially reported with regards to who AEW was planning on giving the position to, it was speculated that former SmackDown commentator and ECW legend Taz might be chosen.
Taz is slated to be on the stacked New Year’s Day edition of Dynamite, so many speculated we could see him officially given the role on Wednesday night.
However, it has been reported that Taz will be at the next episode of Dynamite for a completely different reason.
On the Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Taz will be covering on commentary for Tony Schiavone who has a college football commitment.
Dave Meltzer also commented on AEW’s plans for a new authority figure, and said that nothing was in the works right now.
“Regarding stories that came out like Taz would be introduced as an authority figure, AEW has no plans for a television authority figure”
WrestleVotes are known for their WWE-related backstage scoops, and this was their first real attempt at an AEW report.
