A new report has revealed that Jon Moxley specifically requested to work with an interesting NJPW talent during a recent match.
Moxley successfully defended his NJPW gold against the wrestling veteran on a recent episode of AEW Dynamite. It has been revealed that the IWGP US Championship match wasn’t always scheduled for an AEW show.
In a recent interview, Moxley stated that the title defence was originally scheduled for NJPW Strong. While Moxley and Nagata did clash on NJPW Strong in tag-team action, the match was significantly different to the tag match that was planned.
Moxley was originally set to team with Young Lion Shota Umino before the NJPW prospect suffered an untimely injury. The IWGP US Champion ultimately teamed with Chris Dickinson to defeat Nagata and Ren Narita
As per Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Moxley specifically requested to work with Dickinson, following Umino’s injury. Moxley reportedly thought that Dickinson fit into the rivalry perfectly, showcasing “violent, believable commitment”.
Moxley seemed to enjoy wrestling as a tandem. In recent weeks, Moxley and Kingston have been making a name for themselves in AEW’s tag division. On Dynamite, it was announced that Moxley and Kingston will challenge The Young Bucks for the AEW Tag Team Championship at Double or Nothing.
