A new report has provided clarification on the status of Kairi Sane, who is reportedly still under contract with WWE.
In December Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reported that Sane’s contract had officially expired, following the WWE Ambassador removing references to the company from her social media, and teasing a return to the ring.
Meltzer now reports that Sane is still with WWE. In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was noted that the former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion’s contract expires next month, in February. Sane has reportedly given the impression that she does not plan to renew her WWE deal.
Sane first signed with WWE in March 2017, before winning that year’s Mae Young Classic, defeating Shayna Baszler in the finals. The Pirate Princess defeated Baszler for the NXT Women’s Championship in August 2018, dropping it back to Baszler at WWE Evolution.
Sane joined the main roster in April 2019 as part of the ‘Kabuki Warriors’ team with Asuka. The Japanese team won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Title in October 2019, before losing the gold to Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross at WrestleMania 36 in 2020.
Following her match with Bayley in July 2020,Sane returned to Japan and transitioned into an ambassador role.
