WWE held its WrestleMania Backlash event earlier tonight, and you may have noticed a familiar name trending on social media – The Fiend.
If you’re wondering why The Fiend is trending and you didn’t spot it during the show, it’s because he was mentioned on commentary by Pat McAfee.
There was a young fan in the crowed dressed in a very impressive Fiend outfit, and when he was shown on camera, McAfee asked if The Fiend was sitting in the front row. Michael Cole no-sold it and didn’t respond.
It would be easy to assume that McAfee mentioning The Fiend is something that wouldn’t go over well behind-the-scenes, but actually WWE has had Fiend merch available at various times even after Bray Wyatt was released, and the company does of course have the trademark on the character name too.
So whether there will actually have been any negative reaction we’ll just have to see, or we may even never know.
A new report emerged a few days ago revealing what Wyatt’s salary was before he was released last year, so you can read more about that at this link.
