Two WWE stars faced each other in the ring for the first time ever on December 17 WWE Live show in Moline, Illinois.
On the Saturday, the WWE Intercontinental Championship was defended by Gunther.

This match was the first time that both men have faced each other.
In reply to a fan-recorded highlight video, a WWE fan tweeted:
“NEED this on TV!”
Another fan would comment:
“That chop off the top turnbuckle”
Other comments also echoed the desire to see Gunther take on AJ Styles on WWE television.
AJ Styles would win the encounter, but via disqualification, allowing Gunther to retain the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
Gunther became WWE Intercontinental Champion in June 2022, defeating Ricochet.
Gunther may be set to break a milestone as WWE Intercontinental Champion if he can retain the championship on the final WWE SmackDown of 2022.
