CM Punk made his WWE return at Survivor Series 2023, and now we know whether Vince McMahon had a say in the decision.
Paul Levesque (Triple H) in the post-show press conference mentioned that very few people outside of himself and Nick Khan actually knew Punk’s return was planned.
This even extended to higher ups in TKO who Levesque said would have been surprised by CM Punk appearing.
He didn’t say anything about Vince McMahon in particular, but Dave Meltzer did provide some details on Wrestling Observer Radio.
He said:
“It was a Nick Khan call in the end. It was Nick Khan who made the call. Vince had nothing to do with it. Paul Levesque had, obviously, a lot to do with it.
“Those were the two guys who were the point guys (Levesque and Khan).”

McMahon had been against re-signing CM Punk in 2019/2020 when Fox had called for it to happen.
