First-time WWE Intercontinental Champion to be crowned: Five stars who could soon hold WWE’s workhorse title

While not technically on the same level as the WWE world titles, the Intercontinental Championship holds a special place in many fans and wrestler’s hearts.

Given the title’s illustrious history, an Intercontinental Championship win nowadays feels like WWE highlighting a star as a future main eventer.

From stars in their WWE rookie years to those looking to break championship records, there are numerous competitors who could soon win the IC Title for the first time.

Here are five stars we could see become first-time Intercontinental Champions in the near-future.

Royce Keys

Royce Keys certainly hit the ground running in WWE, skipping NXT to make his debut in the Royal Rumble match, and going on to win the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal in April.

More recently, Keys formed the 946 faction with Lucien Price and Bronco Nima of OTM, and have been running roughshod on Raw.

While the group currently has the Bloodline in their crosshairs, we could soon see Keys bring the Intercontinental Championship back to the group.

With the former “Powerhouse Hobbs” having yet to hold a traditional championship in WWE, the ex- AEW TNT Champion is more than qualified to hold Raw’s midcard title.

Bronson Reed

Another WWE star who could be set to bring singles gold back to their faction in The Vision’s Bronson Reed.

Like Royce Keys, Bronson Reed has yet to hold a championship on the main roster, interestingly having also previously won an Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal in 2024.

Reed’s only traditional WWE championship reign came in NXT, when he held the North American Championship for 41 days in 2021.

WWE has presented Bronson Reed as a monster since his his return at Sunday Night’s Main Event, and he could soon win singles gold to re-enforce this.

Ethan Page

Ethan Page technically has a pinfall victory over an Intercontinental Champion, scoring a fall over then-champion Penta in tag-team action on the May 4 Raw episode, in his second match on the main roster.

While Page hasn’t won the IC Title in the months since, he has remained a fixture in the Intercontinental Title scene, and has been challenging for the title throughout WWE’s recent South American Live Tour.

With WWE clearly feeling Page belongs in this division, it feels like it’s only a matter of time until he holds the title which is currently around the waist of Chad Gable.

Following four months in the IC Title picture, it would make a lot of sense for this to be the first championship Page wins on the main roster.

El Grande Americano

At AAA Noche de Los Grandes, El Grande Americano defeated the “Original” Grande Americano on a Mask vs Mask match.

Both stars have won championship gold in the months since then, with the unmasked Chad Gable taking home the Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam, and El Grande Americano becoming AAA Mega Champion at Triplemanía 34.

Having never held a singles championship on Raw or SmackDown, we could see the former “Ludwig Kaiser” once again cross paths with Chad Gable, this time with the Intercontinental Championship on the line.

With all of El Grande Americano’s popularity in AAA, an Intercontinental Championship reign could be a way to bring this more sincere iteration of the character back to US programming.

Je’Von Evans

Je’Von Evans is currently chasing a number of WWE championship records, and an Intercontinental Championship win would allow him to make WWE history.

Evans recently stated that he’s “very locked in and focused” on becoming the youngest ever WWE world champion, as well as the youngest Intercontinental Champion ever in WWE.

The latter record currently belongs to Jeff Hardy, who defeated Triple H to win the IC Title in April 2001 at the age of 23.

Je’Von Evans would have to win the Intercontinental Championship by December 9, 2027 to make WWE history, something that seems very achievable given his place on the Raw card.
