205 Live Review – July 10, 2018: Championship vs. Respect

Cruiserweight Championship: Hideo Itami vs. Cedric Alexander (c)

Itami got the better of Alexander early, citing multiple cheap shots on the champ to gain the advantage. He wore him down with a wide array of strikes. At one point, he nailed Cedric with a nasty looking knee to chest.

Alexander was clearly on the backfoot, as anytime the champion would begin to mount an offense, Itami was there to snuff it out. Alexander would eventually get in some shots of his own, hitting Itami with some brutal chops, and using his high-flying style to gain the upper hand. However, Hideo would find himself back on top soon after, and he nailed Cedric with a running dropkick with Alexander’s head pressed against the steps.

This led to an excellent near-fall, as Itami struggled to get the champion into the ring, allowing him just enough time to get his shoulder off the mat. After a brief exchange, Alexander hit a Lumbar Check to retain his title.

Result: Cedric Alexander def. Hideo Itami to retain his Cruiserweight Championship

This wasn’t as good as some other main events in recent months but was still a solid match. Itami looked like he belonged in the title scene, while Alexander proved once again why he is the man with the title around his waist. What’s next for both men is yet to be seen, but 205 Live has a promising future, with Alexander its leader.
