AJ Styles Confirms He Helped To Produce Recent Match Featuring WWE Debut: ‘All I Had To Do Was Let Them Loose’

WWE Hall of Famer AJ Styles has revealed that he got to produce a notable match last week, which featured a company debut.

With AJ Styles temporarily filling in as a NXT coach and producer, the former WWE Champion has revealed that he helped out with last week’s episode’s main event, which featured a surprising moment.

Speaking on The AJ Styles Show, the Phenomenal One noted that he helped to produce the Cruz Montana vs Grayson Waller NXT Championship #1 contender’s match, which ended with the debuting Zilla Fatu taking out both competitors.

Praising both Montana and Waller, Styles said:

“I’ll give you one guess which match I had to produce in NXT. Cruz Montana and Grayson Waller, I was lucky enough to be able to produce their match. Listen, there’s not a lot you have to do with this match, because you’ve got two pros who’ve been on television, they know what they’re doing.

“I had no worries they’d get it done in the time that they needed to. Total pros, Grayson Waller is very underrated. The heel work that he’s doing right now, the pissed off ‘I’m going to tell you what I think and if you don’t like it, come do something about it’, I kinda like that. Then a brand new signee with Cruz Montana, freak.

“These guys, I don’t know if you saw both at the end of the match, there were bruises on their chest, there was a boot mark on Cruz’ face, they got after it. There was some very real stuff that was going on, and I liked it. These guys were hitting each other hard. I was impressed by how they wrestled.

“I didn’t need to worry about how it was going to go. I’m there to help produce, it’s not like I’m putting together this match for them, they can do this, but to give ideas and stuff because I know them both… It’s a little bit easier when I have a producer like Abyss or Petey Williams who know my stuff, they can suggest these things in here. But again, it’s not like I had to do a lot, all I had to do is let them loose.”

Not only did this match feature Zilla Fatu’s first WWE on-screen appearance, the actual bout marked Cruz Montana’s first match as an official WWE star, with his previous appearances being while he was contracted to TNA Wrestling.

This comes after Styles recently revealing that he co-produced the NXT Championship Underground match between Kendal Grey and Lola Vice from the August 4 NXT episode.

With AJ Styles’ recent work behind the scenes, it would make sense for the Phenomenal One to eventually become an NXT producer full-time, or try his hand at the agent role on the main roster.
