Becky Lynch has stated her belief that the WWE main event scene has been dominated by the same few men over the past few years.
She believes it’s time to get back to the point where women can be in those positions too, and it’s all about conditioning the audience.
In a new interview on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Lynch spoke about how she “could be” in her last WWE contract right now, but she still has things she wants to do in the company.
When asked what those things are, she replied:
“I just want to tell good stories, have good matches. Want to make sure that the business is better when I leave it than how I found it.
“I know that what I have done is prove that women could be the biggest stars in this company, and they are and can be. I think sometimes we need to fight to make sure we’re positioned as such, because you can be a huge name, but if you’re not positioned in the main event…
“It’s very easy when we condition the audience, ‘This person’s the main event, this person’s the main event, this person’s the main event,’ we see them as the main event. When we don’t condition the audience, then it becomes a little bit harder.
“And for the last few years, I think we’ve, for the most part, those main events have gone to two, maybe three, four dudes constantly.
“I think we need to change that again. I think we need to. I don’t know what that means, whether that means fighting a bit more, whether it’s me or somebody else. Do you think we need to get our backs up a little bit again?”
Becky Lynch Is Correct, WWE Has Regressed On Women In Main Events
The road to WrestleMania 42 over the past few weeks and months has spoken volumes about a lot of things within WWE, and one of those things is the perception and presentation of the women’s division.
There hasn’t been a women’s WrestleMania main event since 2021, which is quite alarming with the amount of stars and big names that populate the division right now – there’s no reason why it shouldn’t have happened at least once at some point over these past few years.
Also, for this particular WrestleMania, the fact that IYO SKY vs Asuka isn’t taking place for seemingly no particular reason is pretty startling as well.
