AEW
Darby Allin has won the AEW World Championship during tonight’s April 15 Spring BreakThru episode of Dynamite.
Allin defeated defending champion MJF, ending MJF’s second reign with the title at 108 days after MJF won the title from Samoa Joe at Worlds End in December.
The win marks Allin’s first reign as AEW World Champion, having previously held the World Tag Team Championship with Sting as well as the TNT Title twice.
Tonight’s match took place in Allin’s home state of Washington. He earned the title shot by defeating Andrade El Idolo at Dynasty this past Sunday – the same event that saw MJF retain the championship against Kenny Omega in the main event.
Tonight saw Allin score the win thanks to four consecutive Coffin Drops followed by a Headlock Takeover.
Allin had been discussed for winning the AEW World Championship a few times in the past, including notably being the frontrunner to dethrone Jon Moxley‘s reign last year before the decision was made for Hangman Adam Page to ultimately be the one to beat Moxley.
Darby Allin Deservingly AEW World Champion
Darby Allin has been one of the most popular stars in AEW since the promotion’s formation in 2019.
Allin has a unique style and spirit that truly embodies what AEW has been about for all these years, and even at times when the promotion overall had veered away from that, Allin didn’t.
The only question marks have come regarding his reliability in terms of his outside the ring activities, including stunts and projects such as climbing Mount Everest putting him at risk of injury.
However, that’s part of what makes him who he is and a vital part of the uniqueness that comes with him, and he is a perfect representation of what an AEW World Champion should be.
