Booker T has shared advice for Trick Williams amid his success on WWE’s main roster thus far, warning the United States Champion not to get “complacent” or start “believing the hype.”

When it comes to WWE NXT main roster call-up success stories, few have made more of a splash in a short amount of time than Friday Night SmackDown’s Trick Williams.

The former two-time NXT Champion moved to the blue brand in January, and immediately began receiving some of the loudest reactions of any star on the roster.

Williams’ popularity became undeniable and WWE were forced to turn him babyface during his WrestleMania 42 feud with Sami Zayn.

Now that “Trick Willy” is riding high as the United States Champion and seeming destined for years of success and potential world championships around his waist, his former mentor in WWE NXT Booker T has warned him that right now is the most “pivotal time” in his career.

Speaking on the No-Contest Wrestling Podcast, Booker T told Trick that he should look at Roman Reigns as an example of what to aspire to be in WWE:

“Trick’s in that position now where he’s got to fly. He’s got to really, really fly. I hope he listens to this because I shoot straight. This is the most pivotal time for a young wrestler like Trick Williams. He cannot get complacent. He cannot start believing the hype. This is the time where he’s got to do more than he ever imagined to put himself into position to be that guy.

“That guy, such as a Roman Reigns, a guy who over these last 10 years, nobody has had a bad match with Roman Reigns because Roman is a hell of a general. He’s going to go out there and he’s going to take you through that match and he’s going to take you to something so compelling at the end of the night.

“No matter how many people did not like Roman Reigns, they’re going to be saying, ‘Damn, he’s good.’ That’s where I need someone like Trick to really be honestly thinking about, focusing on being that guy. That guy that every guy in the locker room looks at him a certain way and they know it when he walks in the room.”

When asked if he’s happy with Trick’s progress thus far on SmackDown, Booker said:

“I am, but then again, I’m a coach. I see everything.

“Nothing gets over my head and it’s always the small things with me that make the fans feel a certain way, which those are the things that Trick can definitely not get away from if he want to make a splash on the main roster for a meaningful amount of time.”

Booker T Reflects On Providing Ad Libs To Trick Williams’ WWE NXT Entrance

During the interview, Booker T would also comment on his famous ad libs during Trick Williams’ entrance music, something that many fans feel added a great deal to his presentation on WWE’s third brand.

While Booker’s contributions to Trick’s entrance became so welcome that fans have cried out at the lack of them since his SmackDown call-up, Booker revealed that his NXT commentary partner Vic Joseph at first tried to shut them down, before quickly changing his mind:

“As far as the ad libs go, again, I’m just having fun out there. And that was one of the times Vic tried to shut me down.

“Trick was coming out to his music and I just started vibing and then I just went off and I just started doing it. Next thing, by the end of it Trick had got in the ring and Vic looks at me and he goes, ‘Do that every week.’”
