Tommy Dreamer Says Brock Lesnar WWE Return Threw Him For A Loop: ‘Such A Cool Moment’

Brock Lesnar made his WWE return after speculation of his retirement, and Tommy Dreamer has said the moment “threw (him) for a loop”.

Having last competed at WrestleMania 42, Brock Lesnar would leave his boots and gloves in the ring following his loss to Oba Femi on April 19, a familiar sight when stars retire from their in-ring careers.

While a retirement wasn’t specifically stated, all doubts were seemingly erased on the May 18 episode of WWE Raw, when Lesnar made his return and levelled Oba Femi.

Addressing the return on Busted Open After Dark, Tommy Dreamer highlighed the fan reaction to the “shock” return of Brock Lesnar, saying:

“The place is going nuts. Holy c**p, he’s in my home town. Listen to those people, they’re rumbling. They’re just so, so into it. They were just shocked. Then, they were really into it. Then Oba starts getting a little bit of sympathy. Then Brock’s getting cheered.

“It was such a cool moment, which totally threw me for a loop. It did not break today at all that Brock Lesnar was in town, nothing like that.

“This is why wrestling should be kept secret. That’s really what we live for in this business, is moments, and also shocking people.”

With Lesnar’s return having derailed Oba Femi’s open challenge, Paul Heyman would later respond to the return of his client.

The Retirement That Wasn’t

It’s easy to believe that Lesnar had retired after WrestleMania 42, leaving his boots and gloves in the ring, becoming uncharacteristically emotional and sharing a moment with Paul Heyman and walking away with little of the presence one would expect from the star, even after a loss.

In comments made after WrestleMania 42, Triple H would appear on ESPN SportsCenter in his role as Chief Content Officer and reflect upon the apparent retirement, saying “it certainly seemed that way“, suggesting that a conversation hadn’t taken place directly after the match.

A recent report also noted that there had been plans for a multi-match feud between Lesnar and Oba Femi, although Dave Meltzer noted that the pitch had been “dropped weeks ago”.

Understanding what happened between WrestleMania 42 and this week’s episode of WWE Raw is something that will no doubt be dissected, although Triple H previously made it clear that the story doesn’t end when it comes to what happens on television.
