WWE announcer Michael Cole has named one of his biggest regrets during his time calling the action for the company.

Over his decades on WWE commentary, Cole – like anyone in his position would – has made a number of mistakes, but some have stood out more than others.

Appearing on the Sal Licata Show, when asked if there was a particular call or moment he regretted, Cole replied:

“I had a massive screw-up in the WrestleMania where Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair headlined WrestleMania, the first time two African American women had headlined the main event at WrestleMania.

“I screwed up at the finish. I was embarassed by it, I apologized to both of the women afterward. They understand that things happen. The fans have never to this day let me forget about it.

“But it is something I regretted. I’d love to have it back if I could. But it’s just one of those moments. You’re in the heat of the moment. It’s just like calling any sporting event, sometimes there’s gonna be a mistake.”

The Sasha Banks vs Bianca Belair WrestleMania 37 main event was the last time a women’s match main evented a night of WrestleMania, which is certainly an indictment on how WWE books its women’s division to this day.

WWE has undoubtedly had the level of star and in-ring talent in its women’s division to hold more women’s main events, the company has just chosen not to do so.

“I don’t see why not. I would say it’s always on the docket. Every time we fight each other there’s always interest and there’s always intrigue.

“People always want to see us beat the bejesus out of each other. And isn’t that a fun place to be because I love beating the bejesus out of her.”
