Wrestling veteran Jun Kasai showed respect to AEW’s Nick Wayne following their NJPW Best of the Super Juniors tournament match.
With Nick Wayne representing AEW in this year’s NJPW Best of the Super Juniors tournament, the former ROH TV Champion faced off against Jun Kasai in the main event of the May 24 show.
After almost 14 minutes of action, in a match which featured a number of weapons including skewers, Kasai defeated Nick Wayne to gain two more points in tournament block action.
Following the match, Kasai took to the microphone to tell Nick Wayne that they are now rivals, regardless of age.
The hardcore wrestling veteran said:
“Just a second, Nick. You’re 20, right? I’m 52 this year. I’m old enough to be your dad, but I’m here beating the crap out of you.
“I see nothing wrong with that. If you’re 20 or 51, it doesn’t matter. As of today, I have a new rival in you. Nick, thank you.”

Jun Kasai then bowed to Nick Wayne, which the Japanese commentators put over as a big deal.
Wayne returned to the ring to bow to Kasai. Before Wayne could leave the arena, Kasai proposed:
“Nick, one more thing. My son is older than you, but he just made his debut last year. I think he could have a hell of a match with you.”

Jun Kasai’s son, Hinata Kasai, has wrestled for DDT-Pro Wrestling since making his debut against HARASHIMA at the August 2025 Wrestle Peter Pan event.
The 22 year-old most recently competed at the May 20 D Generations 9 show, coming up short against Ali Najima.
AEW’s connections with DDT-Pro – with new AEW International Champion Konosuke Takeshita holding a contract with the promotion – mean that a Wayne vs Kasai match would likely be possible.
Wayne currently has six points in the NJPW Best of the Super Juniors tournament, putting him in joint fourth place in the A-block.
Above the AEW star are Titan with 10 points, and Jun Kasai and Master Wato, who both have eight points, with three matches to go for the A-block competitors until block action concludes.
