WWE Hall of Famer The Undertaker has commented following Rey Fenix’ AAA World Cruiserweight Championship defense on SmackDown.

Fenix became the AAA World Cruiserweight Champion at Noche de los Grandes, defeating Laredo Kid to win his first championship under the WWE banner.

The SmackDown star’s first title defense is now in the books, with Fenix defending the gold against Axiom on Friday’s (June 12) edition of SmackDown.

The Undertaker – who serves as a key creative name for AAA – has shared a congratulatory message for Rey Fenix following this title match on WWE TV.

Taking to Twitter, The Undertaker wrote:

Big congrats to Rey Fenix on successfully defending the #AAACruiserweightChampionship and proudly representing Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide.

In a clip shared by WWE Español, Rey Fenix commented following his championship match, stating:

“I want to defend this title all over the world. Raw, SmackDown, NXT, AAA, it doesn’t matter. Rey Fenix es el campeón.”

AAA as a brand is white hot right now, following the El Grande Americano Mask vs Mask match from Noche de los Grandes receiving widespread acclaim.

It makes a lot of sense for WWE to capitalise on the brand’s recent success by featuring its talent and championships on Raw and SmackDown, to get more eyes on the Mexican-based brand.

With the likes of Rey Mysterio, Dominik Mysterio and El Grande Americano playing major roles as part of the AAA product, it’s clear that WWE is happy with talent crossover, opposed to keeping AAA in its own bubble away from Raw, SmackDown and NXT.

More crossover moments like this will help to establish the new WWE-owned version of AAA, which Jack Cartwheel recently stated operates differently from the non-WWE iteration of the company.
