Report: WWE Set To Make Commentary Changes For 2024 WWE

WWE could be set to make a change to SmackDown’s commentary line-ups in 2024, which seemingly spells the end of a veteran name’s time on Friday nights.

According to a new report from PWInsider’s Dave Scherer, the “word making the rounds” is that WWE are planning on having two-man announce teams in 2024 on all of their programming.

While Raw and NXT already consist of pairs at the commentary desk, SmackDown has three, with Kevin Patrick, Corey Graves and Michael Cole featuring every Friday.

This change according to PWInsider, will see Michael Cole’s duties on SmackDown come to an end, with him instead featuring exclusively on Raw going forward.

Cole had previously served alongside his current Raw commentary partner Wade Barrett on SmackDown and before that Pat McAfee.

However, since the summer of 2023, Cole had been undergoing double duty on both the red and blue brands; a move that was questioned by NXT analyst Booker T.

Both Raw and SmackDown are preparing for their own respective new year’s specials this coming week, with many marquee matches set to feature.

For Raw’s Day 1 special tonight (January 1), both the WWE World Heavyweight and Women’s World Championships will be defended, as well as the rumored return of a former WWE Champion.

While there is no clear indication as to who this could be yet, a recently departed AEW star’s name has been brought up as a potential frontrunner.

Elsewhere SmackDown have their own New Year’s Revolution special on January 5, with AJ Styles, Randy Orton and LA Knight facing off in a three-way to determine the next challenger to Roman Reigns at the Royal Rumble.
