WWE
The Great Khali has recalled a backstage interaction involving a young Dominik Mysterio in WWE that he described as “funny”.
Having signed with WWE in early 2006, The Great Khali would face Rey Mysterio in May of that year, with the star reflecting on their work together during a recent appearance on Insight With Chris Van Vliet.
With Van Vliet noting that, during one such encounter, it “looked so real” when Khali crushed Mysterio’s head, the star would respond:
“That match, I remember it was in San Antonio. Khali and Rey went face to face, they are booing me, cheering Rey Mysterio. I squeeze him, vice grip, he goes down.
“After, I go in the parking lot and people are throwing rocks, ‘You motherf****r!’ So many people. All the guys, ‘You motherf****r! You suck!’”
Khali would then go on to reveal details of his encounter with the young Dominik Mysterio, saying:
“I remember one time Dominik was backstage, I said, ‘You like me?’ He nodded. Somebody then said, ‘He doesn’t.’That was funny.”
Having defeated Mysterio on the May episode of SmackDown, they would face each other again in singles action in September of the following year, with Khali on the losing end of that match.

What A Difference Two Decades Makes
Looking back at the young Dominik Mysterio, it’s difficult to balance that timid-looking young man with the star he has become today.
Standing in the shadow of his legendary father, the odds were stacked against Dominik Mysterio when it came to charting his own course, let alone one that has seen him become a hugely popular WWE star. Indeed, being “adaptable” has seen him evolve into the character fans enjoy today.
The alliance with Judgment Day has arguably been the making of the star, although the relationship with Rey Mysterio still looms heavily on his fortunes and plays into proceedings as and when the need arises. A confident star who has held his fair share of titles, including being the current AAA Mega Champion, Mysterio has grown comfortable when it comes to carrying the legacy of his name.
Even his own father has admitted that he came close to retiring before Dominik started training, with his son’s interest reigniting a start that still benefits WWE to this day.
Dominik Mysterio could have been a sideline player, a family member brought out to tell a story, as he had been previously, but his in-ring ability and undeniable charisma have seen him grow on WWE television in a far greater way than may have been expected.
