It was recently announced that 50 female superstars, past, present, and future, will come together for WWE‘s first-ever all-women’s pay-per-view, Evolution. With so many roles to fill, speculation has run wild with who could return.
Something very interesting has appeared on WWE.com, however, that may bring about some dramatic changes in the wrestling world. On the promotion’s official website, they have released a poll asking their fans who they would like to see make a return at the event on October 28.
Among the names are former champions and stars such as Molly Holly, Jacqueline, and even Alundra Blayze. One name stands out in particular, however, and for good reason, as she has caught the eye of the masses. Former WWE Divas Champion – and wife of former WWE Champion CM Punk – AJ Lee tops the list with a whopping 64% at the time of writing.
The rest of the field is currently as follows:
- Stacey Keibler – 6%
- Beth Phoenix – 6%
- Michelle McCool – 4%
- Kelly Kelly – 4%
- Molly Holly – 3%
- Torrie Wilson – 3%
- Alundra Blayze – 3%
- Layla – 2%
- Eve Torres 2%
- Summer Rae – 2%
- Jacqueline – 1%
No one even comes close to AJ Lee. The only problem is that she is arguably the most unlikely name to actually return on the entire list. Her and CM Punk’s history with the company has seen to that.
On top of this, Lee retired from wrestling in 2015. This was partly due to a discovery of permanent damage to her cervical spine. If she was to come back – fingers-crossed – an actual match may be out of the realms of possibility.
Since leaving WWE, Pro Wrestling Illustrated‘s two-time ‘Woman of the Year’ has become a best-selling author. Her memoir, Crazy Is My Superpower: How I Triumphed by Breaking Bones, Breaking Hearts, and Breaking the Rules, debuted at number 10 on The New York Times Best Seller list for hardback non-fiction.
The book has since been optioned for a television show which Lee is currently developing as a writer and executive producer. Would she take time away from that to return to a company who actively burned bridges with her family?
What’s possibly most intriguing about this news is that AJ Lee was even an option on the poll at all. Surely if WWE had truly closed its doors to Lee via Punk, her name would not be mentioned. They must have known the overwhelming support for her would be a possibility, if not a probability, so why list her? Is there even the slightest chance we could see Lee back in WWE this year?
