WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle has revealed that he would’ve loved to have faced a familiar opponent for his WWE retirement match.
Kurt Angle retired from wrestling following his match with Baron Corbin at WrestleMania 35. In an ideal world, Angle would’ve revisited a rivalry for his final match.
Speaking on a special Q&A edition of his Kurt Angle Show podcast, Angle pointed out that a street fight with Shane McMahon would’ve been a great way to end his career, if his body could’ve handled the physicality.
Also discussing John Cena as a potential final opponent, Angle said:
“Shane would have been a great retirement match, but I don’t know if I want to go through a match like that. An ‘Anything Goes Street Fight’ with Shane McMahon when I’m 50 years old? I don’t know how my body would hold out with that thing.”
“I thought Cena made sense because I started his career and I thought Cena could end mine. so, it made better sense, but I would have done Shane McMahon. I just don’t know if I would have been up for (the physicality).”
Angle and Shane McMahon wrestled each other several times in WWE, most notably at King of the Ring 2001 in a street fight. John Cena’s WWE career kicked off on SmackDown in 2002, when Cena showed Angle his “ruthless aggression”.
Following his own return, Cena has commented on speculation surrounding The Rock possibly stepping back into a WWE ring.
