Former UK pro-footballer Adebayo Akinfenwa has commented on the possibility of a future AEW appearance, ahead of his in-ring debut.
Akinfenwa will make his wrestling debut on November 27 for PROGRESS Wrestling. At PROGRESS Chapter 146: They Think It’s All Over, Akinfenwa will team with Anthony Ogogo to face Malik & Kosta Konstantino.
Anthony Ogogo is notably signed to AEW, and made his pro-wrestling debut for the US promotion in April 2021.
Speaking with Cultaholic, Akinfenwa told his fans to ‘watch this space’ regarding a possible AEW debut, noting:
“Look, I’ll always say watch this space. That’s how I’ve always just said it. I’ve said look, I will not put a lid on anything. I just say watch this space, and yeah, watch this space.”
Akinfenwa had been considering a career pro wrestling for a while prior to his recent run with PROGRESS Wrestling. The former striker previously revealed that he had been in talks with WWE.
Hip-hop artist Bow Wow may be the next celebrity to form a long-term working relationship with AEW, with Bow Wow recently asking Tony Khan for a spot on the AEW roster.
