AEW Forbidden Door 2026 is fast approaching and is shaping up to be a memorable show from San Jose, California.

With less than two weeks until this show, there may be some changes made to Forbidden Door 2026 before the company gets to June 28.

From new matches added to some stipulations and unique stakes to existing bouts, this pay-per-view could alter the landscape of All Elite Wrestling moving forward.

Here are seven potential changes to AEW Forbidden Door 2026.

7. 12-Man Tag Steel Cage Match Made Into An Elimination Match

On the June 10 edition of AEW Dynamite, Mark Briscoe revealed that he will captain a team of six against MJF’s captained team in a Steel Cage Match at AEW Forbidden Door 2026.

If Briscoe’s unit wins, Mark will earn a future shot at MJF’s AEW World Championship.

With the stakes being high for this bout, there should be no doubt on who the winning team will be in San Jose.

All Elite Wrestling could add an elimination stipulation to this Steel Cage Match with every individual needing to be pinned or submitted for one team to win over the other on Sunday, June 28.

6. Divine Dominion Defend AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championships In An Open Challenge Against STARDOM Talents

Ever since winning the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championships at Revolution 2026, Divine Dominion has become one of the most dominant pairings in the company right now.

Megan Bayne and Lena Kross have not backed down from any other duo in the AEW Women’s Tag Team Championship picture.

Having beaten nearly every tag team in AEW, Divine Dominion could offer an opportunity to any pairing outside of the promotion.

Considering AEW Forbidden Door 2026 will be a co-promotional event, Divine Dominion could have themselves an open challenge for the gold against any unit from STARDOM on the show.

5. Adam Copeland & Christian Cage vs. The Dogs For AEW World Tag Team Championships Added To The Card

At AEW Double Or Nothing 2026, Adam Copeland and Christian Cage defeated FTR in an I Quit Match to win the AEW World Tag Team Championships.

Just when Cage and Cope were going to celebrate with a five-second pose, The Dogs came out to attack and lay out the new champions.

Fans have not seen Cage and Cope on AEW TV since this attack and could lead to a title bout at Forbidden Door 2026.

Cage and Cope defending the gold against The Dogs should make for a hard hitting and physically intense title clash for the June 28 card.

4. El Sky Team Challenge The Conglomeration For AEW World Trios Titles

Looking at the promotions involved at AEW Forbidden Door 2026, there might not be any better trios around the world than in CMLL.

The current CMLL World Trios Champions are Mistico, Mascara Dorada and Neon, known as El Sky Team.

Meanwhile, The Conglomeration’s Orange Cassidy, Roderick Strong and Kyle O’Reilly have been finding success as the reigning AEW World Trios Champions.

Pitting two of the top trios in the world against one another would make for a potential showstealer on the AEW Forbidden Door 2026 card and could see new champions being crowned.

3. Winner Of Kenny Omega vs. Zack Sabre Jr. Will Get A Shot At The AEW World Title

The latest addition to the AEW Forbidden Door 2026 pay-per-view will see NJPW’s Zack Sabre Jr. going one-on-one with Kenny Omega.

Following his win over Sabre Jr.’s TMDK stablemate Bad Dude Tito on AEW Collision: Summer Blockbuster, Omega stated that this match would start his path back to the AEW World Title.

While ZSJ is part of the NJPW roster, he is an accomplished and decorated champion who has held the IWGP Heavyweight Championship in the past.

Giving both men more incentive to win at this event, Forbidden Door 2026 could see Omega vs. Sabre Jr. become a number one contender’s bout with the winner going on to challenge for the AEW World Championship sometime in the future.

2. Shota Umino vs. Gabe Kidd For IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship Added To The Lineup

At NJPW Dominion 2026, Shota Umino defeated Andrade El Idolo and Drilla Moloney to win the IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship.

After his victory, Umino was attacked from behind by the returning Gabe Kidd of AEW.

Stating that he was representing The Death Riders, Kidd laid out Shooter and sent a message that he planned on winning the IWGP Global Heavyweight Title.

With AEW Forbidden Door 2026 on the horizon, it makes sense for Umino to defend the Global Title against Kidd to give one major NJPW championship a spotlight on this card.

1. Will Ospreay vs. Swerve Strickland Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament Finals Announced As The Official Main Event

When talking about the card for AEW Forbidden Door 2026, the commentary team announced that the show will have a triple main event.

The 12-Man Tag Steel Cage Match, the Men’s and Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Finals will serve as the triple main event for the June 28 pay-per-view.

Following their wins in the Semifinals, Will Ospreay and Swerve Strickland will collide for a third time in AEW in the Finals of the Owen Hart Cup.

Considering the winner will move on to challenge for the AEW World Title in the All In: London 2026 main event, it feels like Ospreay and Strickland are more than deserving of being the true headliner and closing bout for Forbidden Door 2026.
