AEW’s First Women’s Pay-Per-View Main Event

In the 7 years of AEW’s existence, one thing that fans will continuously say could use some improvement is the presentation of it’s women’s division.

While the current group of women’s talent is undeniably ready to take the next step, they will need a push from the booking in the company.

The first major step for the division would be to give the women something they have yet to have in AEW; a major pay-per-view main event match.

Here are some potential first AEW women’s pay-per-view main events.

Mercedes Mone vs. Willow Nightingale – 60 Minute Iron Man Match

Heading into AEW All In this year, Mercedes Mone and Willow Nightingale’s rivalry is arguably the hottest in the company right now.

While running Mercedes vs Willow as the main event of All In would be awesome, it seems far too close to the show for that to realistically be a possibility, with Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega almost certainly set for the final spot.

However, the rivalry between the two will likely not end at All In, especially if Mercedes is able to even up the score between them with a victory on the show.

The eventual rubber match between the two women, with a major stipulation like an Iron Woman match being added, would definitely be a strong enough pay-per-view main event to be the first for the women in AEW.

Mercedes Mone vs. ‘Timeless’ Toni Storm II

At last year’s AEW All In Texas show, Mercedes Mone also challenged for the AEW Women’s World Championship, this time in a losing effort to Toni Storm.

Running Toni vs. Mercedes as the biggest show of the year was undoubtedly the best choice for the show, with the two being inarguably the biggest stars in AEW’s women’s division.

If Mercedes and Willow’s personal grudge isn’t enough to get the main event spot, Toni returning for her rematch with Mercedes, this time with Mercedes as champion, almost certainly will be.

Kris Statlander vs. Willow Nightingale

In the history of AEW’s women’s division, there has never been a more unstable relationship than that of Kris Statlander and Willow Nightingale.

The two women have been linked for a long time, both as tag team partners and opponents, with their Chicago Street Fight at All Out 2024 considered among one of the very best women’s matches in the history of the company.

While Statlander’s momentum is not currently what it was when she won the Women’s World Championship, reheating the rivalry between her and Willow will help her out coming out of All In.

If Willow retains the title against Mercedes in Wembley, doing another encounter between these two at All Out would be a major main event for the show.

Alex Windsor or Jamie Hayter At AEW All In London

The main event slot of this year’s AEW All In event has been in the works for a long time, with British born Will Ospreay’s crowning moment at Wembley Stadium set to headline the show.

Also at All In this weekend, Jamie Hayter and Alex Windsor are likely also set for home country glory as they face Divine Dominion for the AEW Women’s Tag Team Championship on the show.

With no sign of AEW All In moving from Wembley Stadium in the future, or at the very least AEW likely heading to the UK every single year for a PPV, a Women’s World Championship victory for a British born women’s star could get that headline spot.

Right now, that would likely have to be Windsor or Hayter.

Mercedes Mone vs. Bayley

There has been a lot of speculation about Bayley’s future in recent weeks since her defeat to Lyra Valkyria at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Madison Square Garden.

With Bayley’s WWE contract set to expire before the end of the year, we could soon see her become All Elite.

In terms of matches waiting for Bayley in AEW, another match with legendary rival Mercedes Mone has to be at the top of that list, especially with Mercedes likely to capture the Women’s World Championship at All In.

In many ways, there could be nobody more fitting to have AEW’s first women’s pay-per-view main event than the two people that helped spearhead the entire revolution.
