WWE
Over the past year, WWE fans have seen AJ Lee, The Bella Twins and Paige make their returns to the company.
With these legends making a comeback, there could be other former WWE Women’s Champions on the path to making their return as well.
From legendary names to recent departures from the promotion, these stars could make a major impact back in the fold sooner rather than later.
Here are six more former WWE Women’s Champions who could potentially return soon.
6. Mickie James
During the 2000s and 2010s, Mickie James was one of the most popular female stars in WWE.
From her rivalries with Trish Stratus and Beth Phoenix to six reigns as WWE Women’s Champion, James left her mark in a significant way across two runs with the company.
In recent months, James has stepped back into the ring for TNA Wrestling where she was embroiled in a feud with The Elegance Brand.
However, it might be the right time for Mickie to make her comeback to WWE where she could bring her veteran experience and star power to a whole new crop of talent in the women’s division.
5. Michelle McCool
During her time in the ring, Michelle McCool became one of the most dominant and decorated WWE female stars on the roster.
Across four reigns as WWE Women’s and Divas Champion, McCool showed what made her someone other competitors had to fear inside the squared circle.
After taking part as a coach on WWE LFG Season Two, McCool let it be known that she was open to stepping back in the squared circle as a competitor again.
Wanting to mix it up with the next generation of WWE talent, McCool could make for a legendary star to face off with the likes of Tiffany Stratton, Blake Monroe or Charlotte Flair.
4. Lita
Back in 2022 and 2023, Lita returned to WWE and showed that she still had a desire to compete against the women’s division.
Since her short stint back in the company, Lita has been absent from in-ring action over the past few years.
Despite retiring in 2006, Lita has never been scared to get back in the squared circle and go at it with some new talent on the WWE roster.
After inspiring a new era of women’s talent, it would be fitting to see Lita get back in the mix and go up against some of the stars she has paved the way for in 2026.
3. Trish Stratus
When talking about Lita, many fans closely associate her with her career rival and close friend Trish Stratus.
Over the past decade, Stratus has gotten back into the ring and showed absolutely no fear in facing some of the current stars in the WWE women’s scene.
The seven-time WWE Women’s Champion is one of the greatest female stars to ever step in the company and can offer a once-in-a-lifetime experience for some of the current talent in the women’s division right now.
Whether it be Liv Morgan, Sol Ruca or IYO SKY, any female star would be lucky to get inside the squared circle with Trish to see how they match up with the WWE Hall of Famer.
2. Kelly Kelly
In 2025, Kelly Kelly signed a WWE Legends deal, marking her return to the promotion in some capacity.
However, Kelly has not appeared in a significant way since signing that contract almost one year ago.
During the 2000s and 2010s, Kelly was seen as one of the biggest female stars on the WWE roster and a former Divas Champion.
Making her return to the company, Kelly could be someone who can play several different roles within WWE at this point from in-ring competitor to a managerial position.
1. Carmella
Another former WWE Women’s Champion who has what it takes to play different roles within the promotion is Carmella.
Departing the company in 2025, Mella still could have contributed in some way after taking maternity leave following the birth of her first child.
With her husband Corey Graves still with the company, the door might be open for the former WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion to make her return sometime down the road.
After recently commenting on a match featuring B3CCA using her Code of Silence finisher in AEW, this might be a tease for Mella to make her return to WWE sometime in the near future to make her presence felt once again.
