WWE star Lizzy Rain has revealed that her finishing move, known as Thunderstruck, was inspired by former NXT star Meiko Satomura.

Making her televised debut on the April 28 episode of WWE NXT, Lizzy Rain defeated Nikkita Lyons, hitting Thunder Struck before scoring the pin.

Speaking on Busted Open After Dark, Rain revealed that the inspiration for the move came from Meiko Satomura, herself a former NXT star with a history in wrestling dating back to the mid-90s, saying:

“It’s like a pop-up Shining Wizard; it’s my knee that hits her. I actually got inspired (by) Meiko Satomura’s Scorpion Rising. I wanted to do a Shining Wizard, but a lot of people do Shining Wizards. I used to do the Knee Trembler as a finish, and I still wanted to do some kind of knee or Shining Wizardy thing, and me and my coach were just thinking, ‘What can we do that’s a little bit different?’ And we thought, ‘Oh, what about a pop-up one?’ Kind of like Meiko Satomura’s finish, she heavily inspired me.

“I love watching her wrestle. So we did it, and we were like, ‘This is the sickest finish ever, we need to do this. This needs to be your finish.’ The name comes from the leg looking a little bit like a thunderbolt, and you know, AC/DC Thunderstruck, it kind of fits perfectly.”

The move didn’t take long to perfect, either, with Rain going on to reveal how much time was put into getting it right, stating:

“10 minutes (laughs). Yeah, I’ve got loads of videos of me and my coach practicing on a crash mat. And we were like, ‘This is awesome.’

“Because of my dancing background, I felt like it was quite easy, the post for it feels quite easy to do, and I’ve got the flexibility in my hips to get that thunderbolt. So yeah, it didn’t take long at all.”

Rain would also reveal that she didn’t think that WWE was in her future as a professional wrestler, saying that the idea seemed “far-fetched“.

She was one of a number of new stars to make their debut on last night’s episode of WWE NXT, with former NJPW star EVIL being among them.

The Inspiration Of A Generation

Meiko Satomura retired from wrestling last year, with her final match taking place in the Sendai Girls’ Pro Wrestling back in April 2025.

Following the match at Sendai Girls Meiko Satomura THE FINAL, Triple H would share a tribute to the 30 year career of the star, noting that she had “inspired a generation of female athletes around the world”.

Satomura’s history with WWE would come to an end with a final match against Bayley at an untelevised house show during the SuperShow Summer Tour of Japan, with the star having signed her first deal back in 2020, joining NXT UK as an in-ring talent and coach.

The final NXT UK Women’s Champion, her time in NXT itself would see her lose the title to that brand’s champion Mandy Rose in a unification match at the 2022 edition of Worlds Collide, with Blair Davenport also factoring into the match.

Her career would see Satomura featured in WCW back in 1996 through the partnership with Gaea Japan, one of many independent companies that would see the star as their champion.

Ranked No. 22 in the Pro Wrestling Illustrated PWI Women’s 150 back in 2022, Satomura’s influence on stars across the world is likely to continue far beyond the current generation.
