Why Becky Lynch Shouldn’t Turn Babyface

The Fans Love It

Becky Lynch is on top of the world right now. And while it is true that WWE tried to get Becky Lynch booed at Hell in a Cell, it’s been clear for some time since that there is nothing the Irishwoman can do to stop her from being cheered. Countless pushes – from John Cena to Roman Reigns – have received unintended reactions. And time and time again, WWE have stood by the idea that any pop is a good pop. As for Becky, we are hearing this sentiment from Vince McMahon himself:

If Becky Lynch is drawing in fans, is there any reason to change her character? All signs point to a “no” from WWE creative staff.

Some fans have feared that Becky’s massive reactions would be forced aside to push Charlotte. After all, looking across brands to Braun Strowman’s heel turn to push Roman Reigns as Universal Champion shows a template. The supposed babyface Flair has indeed been met with jeers from crowds. However, unlike “polarizing” stars, Charlotte doesn’t seem to mind:

“Honestly, if I wasn’t getting a reaction then there would be a problem. Whether I am getting cheered or booed, you are here to make the audience react. I don’t look at it as a negative. I look at it as the fans are invested in the story.”

Besides, it’s no secret that even more than his personal projects, Vince McMahon loves money. And judging by the poll on our website right now, Lynch’s new persona is an even greater draw for this month’s Evolution pay-per-view than the main-event of Ronda Rousey and Nikki Bella.

So let’s keep track: Since Becky Lynch’s heel turn, she’s been main-eventing SmackDown Live in one of WWE‘s biggest storylines. Her turn is a consistent build on the character that her die-hard fans have grown to love over the past years. And since SummerSlam, Becky Lynch has been a major draw for the company, drawing perhaps the most interest of any woman currently on the roster.

So don’t expect Becky to change anytime soon. While some fans may be hoping to see her portrayed as a babyface, a change like that to Becky’s character would sacrifice major development she’s had in the past months. And the truth is, fans love Becky. WWE loves Becky. And she really, really loves herself.
