Confusion Over WWE Faction’s New Name

Confusion Over WWE Faction’s New Name WWE

There looks to have been some confusion surrounding the name of a new WWE faction following the filing of a new trademark.

NXT this week (December 12) saw the already established union between Drew Gulak, Charlie Dempsey, Damon Kemp and Myles Borne finally receive an official title on TV.

The group are now known as the No Quarter Catch Crew, a call-back to Gulak’s own Catch Point faction in Evolve in the mid 2010s.

While it’s nice to know what we can now refer to the group as officially, a recent trademark filing by WWE has now cast some doubt on things.

On December 12, the same day as NXT, a USPTO filing was made by WWE for No Quarter Catch Club – not crew – which is of course different to the officially dubbed name they were given on yesterday’s broadcast.

Here is the official trademark filing description:

Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer rendered and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information; fan club services, namely, organizing sporting events in the field of wrestling for wrestling fan club members; organizing social entertainment events for entertainment purposes for wrestling fan club members; providing online newsletters in the fields of sports entertainment; online journals, namely blogs, in the field of sports entertainment

While the exact reasoning for the difference is not yet known, there are a few possibilities that could explain what’s happened.

Firstly, the filing was perhaps made first for No Quarter Catch Club, only for WWE to later decide to change it to No Quarter Catch Crew before NXT aired.

Secondly, it’s possible a simple mistake was made on the part of whoever filed the trademark for WWE, with ‘Crew’ intended to be used but ‘Club’ used instead.

Trademark mistakes have been seen in wrestling before, with an infamous recent example being AEW’s original filing for AEW Collision being misspelt as ‘AEW Collison’.

Thirdly, and perhaps least likely is that WWE are still planning to change the group’s name to that of the trademark filing.

As mentioned, none of these theories have been confirmed, so we will have to wait for any further developments on this story to come.

A mystery member of the group will challenge Dragon Lee for the North American Championship next week.
