Ethan Page has opened up on why he ‘chose’ to challenge for the Intercontinental Championship following his WWE Raw debut.
Former NXT Champion Ethan Page made his WWE Raw debut on the Raw after WrestleMania 42 show, with him immediately thrusting himself into the Intercontinental Championship picture.
Page even picked up a pinfall victory over champion Penta on Raw in recent weeks, setting him up for an Intercontinental Championship match at this Saturday’s Saturday Night’s Main Event show.
Ethan Page Chose Intercontinental Championship Out Of Respect To It’s Lineage
Speaking on the Raw Recap, Page was asked about potentially becoming Intercontinental Champion, and why he ‘chose’ to go after the belt instead of chasing the World Heavyweight Championship.
He said:
“I have been documented saying that I already believe I am good enough to be the World Heavyweight Champion. I have chosen to go after the Intercontinental Championship out of respect to it’s lineage and what it represents in the history of this company.
“It took me over 20 years to get to Monday Night Raw, about 19/20 years. This is very important to me. I’m not doing this in my early 20s that I can flub up or get arrested or fired, I’m 36 years old, this is it. Intercontinental Championship and then off to the races, like every great before me.
“They always end up become the best world champion, whether it be WCW or WWE, these are all fantastic greats that ended up having long, historic lineages in this company.
“Wherever people came from, they all ended up here, and they all ended up with the Intercontinental Championship as the launching pad. It’s factual, and I don’t think Penta even understands what he’s holding.”

Will Ethan Page Become Intercontinental Champion?
While Penta’s reign as Intercontinental Champion has been a good one, including a defence in a Ladder match at WrestleMania 42, WWE should opt to switch the title over to Ethan Page at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
Page comes to the WWE main roster after an incredible two year run in NXT, including him becoming the longest reigning North American Champion of all time, as well as picking up the NXT Championship just weeks after his debut.
Page winning the Intercontinental Championship so soon after his debut would replicate his instant success in NXT, and set up a potential feud with former rival Je’von Evans heading into the Summer.
