Moose vs. Callihan

I’ll be honest, last Thursday feels a long time ago now. I hadn’t put two-and-two together as to why Moose would be facing Callihan and I’m sure that many of you (who have better memories than me) were ready to call me out for it after my preview article.

Last week Moose faced Eli Drake in a Feast or Fired Case vs. Case match. Callihan and the oVe attacked Moose and cost him the match (and his World Championship spot) – just because he’s friends with Eddie Edwards. This week Moose planned to get some revenge.

All the backstory put aside, this match was pretty great.

Moose is a little uninspired in the ring, playing the big man role with a lot of strikes and basic moves, but he did well to dominate a lot of the match. Callihan was great as usual and did a brilliant job of selling the moves of the bigger man.

As it should be, Callihan used a lot of cheating tactics throughout the match, including low blows and biting. This really helps his character development as a nasty heel, not that he needs it at this point, but it definitely reinforces what he’s been telling us for months.

Eventually, Edwards interfered in the match, and at that point, Moose was pretty much useless in furthering the story. This continued much as you’d expect, with oVe getting involved and getting the upper-hand on Edwards until things went a very different direction.

It was pretty great to see Tommy Dreamer on Impact, coming to the rescues of Eddie Edwards and Moose, but I’m a little concerned about how many people they are tying into this narrative. The match is set up for Redemption as a six-man tag – with Edwards, Moose, and Dreamer facing off against oVe (With Callihan leading of course) – it makes perfect sense because it’s been well-built, but this wasn’t the direction I was expecting this feud to go in.

Dreamer looked great by the way, and I love seeing him return to the ring as he has a great presence.
