Pat McAfee has discussed bringing his show to ESPN.
As previously reported, Pat McAfee recently inked a lucrative, multi-million dollar deal to bring “The Pat McAfee Show” to ESPN.
Speaking with Jimmy Traina on SI Media podcast, McAfee was asked if there were other offers that made him think twice about locking in with ESPN. He answered:
“Every platform has their own entities and properties that they are trying to build up, right?”
“We are in the streaming era where everybody wants to build attention for whatever they are investing in because obviously the people that are investing in these things want these to succeed so how do we amplify these properties that we are investing in?”
“So every place that we (The Pat McAfee Show) went to was looking for us to hopefully boost all of their properties. Now, some places that we were talking to don’t have many yet.”
“But they’re looking to get heavily into things and it’s like, when is that gonna be? You gotta start judging that out. You gotta start judging out. If we go to some places, will that take away growth opportunity with our YouTube community?”
That I f**king love. I love our YouTube community, I love what YouTube is. I like that you can profit off it. It feels like if you genuinely put into it, you’ll get some stuff out of it. Our entire show has just been (a) YouTube show and we have no connection to Google at all.”
The former NFL punter and SmackDown commentator continued on to explain why he didn’t want to take his show from YouTube completely, saying:
“We just get a paycheck from them every single month from Google AdSense. We really talk to nobody over there. So it’s like, I didn’t want to give that up at all.”
“There was some places that didn’t want me to continue on YouTube. ESPN, as soon as I brought everything, they were like, ‘Cool, cool, cool. That’s a you thing. That’ll be part of the deal, we got it’ but, there were some places that weren’t ‘bout it if I’ll say.”
His new deal with ESPN may have ended his stint with WWE for now, but McAfee also admitted to being in contact with Vince McMahon in the same interview.
