It’s being reported that Triple H was not made aware that four of his top NXT stars were being called up to the main roster until after the decision had been made.
Ricochet, Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano and Aleister Black all made their main roster debuts on this week’s Raw, and also appeared on SmackDown Live.
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, there was a miscommunication between Vince’s team and Triple H which meant that Trips was not aware that he was potentially losing four guys his whole brand was built around.
With Tommaso Ciampa as NXT Champion and Johnny Gargano as NXT North America Champion, NXT could be on the verge of losing the best storyline told in NXT history.
What’s more, the two men are part of one of the biggest blood feuds in wrestling history, but have turned up on the main roster as best friends again, which totally undermines the whole story they’ve been telling on NXT.
According to Meltzer, Vince was reacting to poor ratings and just asked for the top four guys from NXT to be on Raw and SmackDown. The episode of Raw wasn’t finalised until after the show had started, and Seth Rollins’ injury completely changed the layout.
Once Triple H had been told, we understand that he asked for a number of changes to be made, including Ricochet, who was due to face Finn Balor, to be placed in a tag match instead to avoid an unnecessary babyface vs babyface match, and a probable loss for the debutante.
It isn’t clear how Triple H has reacted to the call-ups, but I know how I’d feel.
