A WWE Hall of Famer has weighed in on the main event of SummerSlam 2026 Night One, which saw Oba Femi defeat Brock Lesnar inside Hell in a Cell.

Unlike WWE SummerSlam Sunday, which seems to have one clear main event match in Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship, Night One of ‘The Biggest Party of the Summer’ had two strong contenders to close the show: CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Title and Brock Lesnar vs. Oba Femi in Hell in a Cell.

Ultimately it was the latter which got the spot, and Femi and Lesnar did not disappoint when it came to building upon the physicality of their two previous encounters at WrestleMania 42 and Clash in Italy.

While Lesnar and Femi was an exciting closer which didn’t relent in its pace, one WWE legend believes that the match they put on didn’t truly require the Hell in a Cell stipulation.

Speaking on WWE Now with Sam Roberts, Sean Waltman (X-Pac) said Lesnar and Femi could have delivered everything they did without being surrounded by the Hell in a Cell cage, but admitted that having it there was an “extra bonus.”

Waltman said:

“Honestly I don’t think they even needed the Hell in a Cell.

“They could have gotten everything, the same stuff done, same emotions all that. But Hell in a Cell is an extra bonus.”

Sean Waltman Believes Brock Lesnar’s Torch Passing To Oba Femi Was A Genuine Moment

Whether the match required the Hell in a Cell structure or not, Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi delivered the most significant moment of Femi’s career thus far, not only by defeating ‘The Beast’ but also being given a ringing endorsement by his former rival once the match was over.

As questions swirl regarding whether Lesnar’s in-ring career will be continuing, he definitely declared Femi as “the future” and himself as “the past” of WWE – a moment that establishes ‘The Ruler’ as the company’s next big thing.

Discussing this moment of apparent sincerity from Brock, Sean Waltman spoke confidently about his belief that Lesnar wouldn’t have hailed Femi as “the future” if he didn’t truly believe that himself, even if WWE scripted for him to say it.

Waltman said:

“I don’t care what anybody says. I know people can say ‘They (WWE) write this or write that.’

“But I don’t think anybody can tell Brock Lesnar that he’s got to say this guy’s the future if Brock Lesnar doesn’t believe that.”
