WWE United States Champion Trick Williams Names Aleister Black As A ‘Dream Opponent’ WWE

With WrestleMania 42 seeing Trick Williams become WWE United States Champion, he has now revealed he wants to face Aleister Black.

Night 2 of WrestleMania 42 saw Trick Williams defeat Sami Zayn to become the new WWE United States Champion, the first main roster title he has held since his call-up earlier this year.

Williams was recently asked who he would like to face going forward during an appearance on The Sportster, and he responded by asking the host for their pick.

With host Adam Barnard suggesting Aleister Black, Williams would agree that that’s a pretty good pick, saying:

“Aleister Black? I would love that. I love his style. He’s a vet in the game. He’s actually one of my dream opponents, man. I really like Aleister Black.”

Aleister Black is approaching the first anniversary of his return to WWE, with that moment taking place on the April 25 episode of SmackDown.  He has recently stated that a World Championship win is “of course the goal”, as is main eventing WrestleMania, but noted that he is content to be back in WWE.

Williams signed with WWE back in 2021, heading to NXT, with Black being released from his contract in June of that year and subsequently signing with AEW.

The Benchmark Of Aleister Black

Whether he’s known by his WWE name, Malakai Black in AEW or Tommy End on the independent scene, Aleister Black has crafted a career of being a focal point thanks to a striking appearance backed up by his martial arts-influenced in-ring style.

Championships may have been in short supply during his tenures with WWE, having held the NXT Championship, but his work is certainly worthy of the opportunity. It’s not that he hasn’t come close, challenging Ilya Dragunov and Sami Zayn for the WWE United States Champion last year on SmackDown, it’s just that he hasn’t quite been able to get the job done.

His recent feud with Damian Priest ended in an Ambulance match loss, with the same outcome in the February 6 Elimination Chamber qualifying match that saw Randy Orton progress over Black and Solo Sikoa. These, in themselves, suggest that Black should be on the cusp of a push towards main roster championship contention.

A former AEW World Trios Champion, Black has previously held multiple titles across the independent wrestling scene, showing that there’s an ability for him to be in the championship picture.

Perhaps that championship picture that Black now needs is a feud with Trick Williams for his newly won title.
