WWE
Super featherweight boxing champion Alycia Baumgardner has teased a possible tag team with Jade Cargill following WWE WrestleMania 42.
Night 2 of WrestleMania 42 saw Jade Cargill’s reign as WWE Women’s Champion come to an end at the hands of Rhea Ripley.
While Cargill seeks revenge and a rematch against Ripley, it appears she could have found an ally should she want to pursue a new tag team run.
On social media, Baumgardner sent a message to Cargill, with that post being shared by ESPN SportCenter speculating on a potential tag team, reading:
“Jade, go ahead and tap me in.”
Cargill would respond the message, clearly interested in the proposition, replying:
“I’d love that.”
The boxing star would repond to SportCenter’s posting of the exchange with emojis:
👀😏
Baumgardner has previously revealed that she has been in talks with WWE, suggesting a potential run is “in the works“.
Last competing on April 17 at Madison Square Garden, Baumgardner was victorious over Bo Mi Re Shin, retaining her IBF, WBA, WBO & The Ring female super featherweight championships.
At the time of writing, her in-ring career stands at 18 wins with only one loss in a career that started with a victory back in March 2017.
Cargill is no stranger to tag team action, having been a two-time WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion with Bianca Belair, who will be out of action for the foreseeable future, having announced her pregnancy at WrestleMania 42.
Combat Sports & WWE Crossover
Tom Brady may have had plenty to say about the athletic credentials of WWE stars, but there are those in combat sports who have either expressed an interest in crossing over or have actually stepped into the ring.
Back in the 70s, Muhammad Ali would step into the NJPW ring to face Antonio Inoki in a boxer vs. wrestler match, with the Japanese star winning that encounter. Ali would go on to be the special guest referee for Hulk Hogan & Mr T. vs. Paul Orndorff & Roddy Piper at the first ever WrestleMania back in 1985, sharing the duties with Patterson.
A WWE Hall of Famer, Ali wouldn’t be the only boxer to step into the world of professional wrestling, with Mike Tyson getting involved in the late 90s and being a special ringside enforcer at WrestleMania 14, with Evander Holyfield, Floyd Mayweather, and Tyson Fury among those who have crossed over in various capacities.
The MMA world is also far from absent, too, with Ronda Rousey, Shayna Baszler, Marina Shafir & Jessamyn Duke, collectively known as the Four Horsewomen, all heading to WWE with varying degrees of success. And, obviously, Brock Lesnar, who may have retired as a WWE star at WrestleMania 42, is a prime example of a star who went from WWE to MMA and back again throughout his career.
Should Baumgardner make her WWE debut alongside Jade Cargill, it could be the moment that drives the former Women’s Champion to even greater success, with the mainstream coverage the boxing star is likely to bring with such a signing.
