In some truly devastating news, it has emerged that an up-and-coming professional wrestler from the UK, who was said to have been “fit and healthy”, has died in hospital just two days after testing positive for COVID.
19-year-old Cameron Wellington from Walsall in Birmingham tested positive for the virus on Tuesday, and was being rushed to hospital with serious breathing difficulties the following evening.
An hour after he arrived at the hospital, Cameron’s mother received a phone call saying that his oxygen levels had fallen significantly. He was then placed on dialysis and taken into the ITU.
After undergoing a lung operation, Cameron was rushed to Glenfield Hospital in Leicester for more specialist care. There the teenager had further heart surgery, before tragically passing away.
Cameron began his professional wrestling career at the age of just 12/13. The teenager worked with Pro Wrestling Live, with his father telling BirminghamLive just how much his son loved wrestling:
“He was a bubbly, bright, happy person. Everyone warmed to him. He loved wrestling with a passion. He started doing it when he was 12 or 13 so quite a few years ago. He worked his way up through the junior class and into the senior class. I just want him back.”
Cameron’s family has set up a GoFundMe page to help with the funeral costs and various other expenses. The page has already surpassed it’s £5,000 goal, and if you’d like to consider donating, you can do so by clicking here.
