When Kofi Kingston burst onto the WWE scene back on the ECW brand in 2008, he had a stereotypical Jamaican presentation. The Jamaican presentation was infamously dropped in 2009, but his theme song ‘SOS’ stuck with him until he joined the New Day in 2014.
Kingston spoke about the song on the Out of Character Podcast with Ryan Satin, saying that you shouldn’t hold your breath if you are hoping for him to bring the song back.
He said:
“You would be surprised at how many people ask that like on a weekly basis. There’s so many people. People were like, ‘I’m eating Shelton,’ no. ‘I hear them shouting.’ I’m eating Shelton? No, I’m not consuming that man. I always say like, ‘If you want to hear ‘SOS,’ all you got to do is go on to Peacock or go to the WWE Network, you know, wherever you are, and you go and watch old Kofi Kingston stuff,’ or if we get another time machine. I don’t know what happened to our last one. It got stolen. But I don’t think that we’ll be hearing ‘SOS’ any time soon. But you never say never, especially in this industry.”
The ‘time machine’ references a segment from 2016 during the New Day’s brief feud with the Vaudevillains, where they travelled back in time to 2009, which was his ‘best year’, at least at that point.
