WWE
The Rock has not stepped into a WWE ring since WrestleMania XL, when he and Roman Reigns teamed up against Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins on night one of the show.
Today, Rock made some noise in an interview when he promised the hosts of the show tickets to a future WrestleMania ‘when he returns’ to the ring, confirming that he is not done from in-ring competition.
While it likely may not be next year, Rock has now seemingly confirmed he will have at least one more match in WWE before he calls it a career.
Here are some potential WWE retirement opponents for The Rock.
Roman Reigns
The most obvious option for the next opponent for The Rock is Roman Reigns, with their dream match still remaining the white whale to a lot of Bloodline fans.
The match was initially slated for WrestleMania XL after The Rock returned and replaced Cody Rhodes on the February 2, 2024 episode of SmackDown, but fan backlash led to the match being scrapped for the initial plan of Reigns vs. Rhodes.
In the years since, Rock has been speculated for a return to face off with his cousin, but the match is still yet to take place with time running out.
If Rock does have one more match, it’ll most likely finally be the match with Reigns.
Gunther
Last year, Gunther began his run as the ‘Career Killer’ when he retired Bill Goldberg at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Atlanta.
Gunther would then go on to retire John Cena and AJ Styles in the months since, with ending the careers of legendary stars becoming Gunther’s main character trait now.
After retiring John Cena, there are very few potential names left for Gunther to retire that would have more impact than that.
The Rock is one of those names.
Jacob Fatu
With Roman Reigns also likely coming to an end of his WWE career in the next few years, it could end up being a different member of the Bloodline family we see face The Rock.
The current version of the Bloodline storyline is seemingly being built for Jacob Fatu to eventually betray Roman and take his seat at the head of the table for years to come.
When The Rock returned to WWE in 2024, he did so alongside Roman, with Rock looking to keep the Tribal Chief seated as the patriarch of this generation of the Bloodline.
If Jacob upsets the hierarchy, Rock stepping in to face him to test if he is truly ready would make sense, and give a major rub to Jacob on the way out.
Trick Williams
One of the fastest rising stars in WWE right now, Trick Williams instantly connected with the WWE fans on the main roster after his call up to SmackDown in January.
Both Trick Williams and The Rock are known for their gift of gab, with charisma oozing off both men.
Of all the young stars on the WWE roster, Rock facing Trick would make the most sense, as the pair would click incredibly well as opponents, especially on the microphone.
Cody Rhodes
The Rock has made a number of appearances on WWE television since WrestleMania XL, but in almost all of those appearances, it wasn’t Roman Reigns that Rock was working with.
Ahead of last year’s Elimination Chamber, The Rock famously appeared in an attempt to get Cody Rhodes to sell him his soul, which ended up being a twist for John Cena’s heel turn.
With Rock leaving a lot of potential storylines on the table with Cody, it almost wouldn’t make sense for Rock to come back and face anyone else.
