WWE Star Comments On Championship Reign: ‘For It To Take This Long, It Still Angers Me To This Day’

WWE NXT Women’s North American Champion Zaria has commented on plans for determining her title challengers.

Zaria became Women’s North American Champion on the June 9 NXT episode, defeating Tatum Paxley to win the gold.

Speaking on Busted Open, Zaria noted that it “angers” her that it took that long for her to win gold in WWE, having made her NXT debut in 2024.

She said:

“For it to take this long, it still angers me to this day. I had to jump over so many hurdles for two years.

“There was a year, a year and a half, however long it was – it felt like 100 years – where I got distracted. Once I woke up, I kicked (Sol Ruca) to the gutter.”

When Bully Ray asked Zaria what type of champion she intends to be for the rest of her reign, Zaria responded:

“Almost everyone that has held this championship has just given away matches like that, so easily, without (the challengers) really grinding and working hard for it.

“I think people should go through multiple matches, I think there should be tournaments for this. You have to work a lot harder to get something as cool as this, because I worked for two years to get something like this. You’re not gonna get it just like that.”

Zaria is the ninth woman to hold the NXT Women’s North American Championship following its introduction in June 2024 – four months before Zaria’s first televised match for the brand.

Tatum Paxley, who Zaria defeated for the gold, has since made her main roster debut, aligning with Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss on the August 7 SmackDown episode.

Zaria’s former tag partner Sol Ruca is also on the main roster, having reigned with the Women’s Intercontinental Championship for 57 days, ahead of losing to Raquel Rodriguez on the July 27 edition of Raw.

Zaria has commented on the successes of the NXT women’s division, discussing what she believes makes the women’s roster so strong.
