On the August 17 episode of Monday Night Raw, Chad Gable defeated Rey Mysterio to retain the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

After retaining the gold in another showstealer, it will be intriguing to see who will be next to step up for Gable’s title.

With the vast amount of talent on WWE Raw, Gable could have any number of old or new opponents coming after the IC Title in the near future.

Here are seven potential Chad Gable next WWE Intercontinental Championship challengers.

8. Dominik Mysterio

Dominik Mysterio is the current AAA Mega Champion and a two-time Intercontinental Champion.

Despite his recent win-loss record, Mysterio is someone who seems to always be in the title mix.

“Drity Dom” has recently had some run-ins with Chad Gable following his Intercontinental Championship win.

While he did take the loss in tag team action on the August 3 WWE Raw, Mysterio could find a way to get the next shot at Gable’s IC Title in the coming weeks.

7. Austin Theory

When he returned to WWE at the tailend of 2025, Austin Theory joined forces with The Vision.

Since then, Theory is the current World Tag Team Champion alongside Bron Breakker and has some eye candy on his arm in the form of Maxxine Dupri.

After being on a roll as of late, Theory might want to add some singles gold to The Vision.

Considering his recent momentum, Theory could prove to be a massive test for Gable’s Intercontinental Championship reign.

6. Ethan Page

Ever since arriving on Monday Night Raw, Ethan Page has had his sights set on the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

“All Ego” has been a champion for much of his WWE run, holding the NXT Championship and being one of the longest reigning NXT North American Champions in the brand’s history.

Making his return after losing his Original El Grande Americano mask at AAA Noche de Los Grandes, Gable has had several confrontations with Page.

Gaining experience from these run-ins, Page might have the information needed to finally win “The Symbol of Excellence” as he puts it and win the IC Title sooner rather than later.

5. Dragon Lee

WWE Raw has seen the World Heavyweight Championship #1 Contender’s Tournament take center stage.

Over the past few weeks, Dragon Lee has been picking up momentum with a series of wins in tournament and non-tournament matches.

While he could be in line for a shot at “The OTC,” it seems unlikely Lee will win this entire tournament, but his recent success should not be ignored.

With wins over Dominik Mysterio and El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr., Lee would make for a formidable opponent for Gable’s Intercontinental Championship in the weeks to come.

4. Je’Von Evans

Another WWE star who has recently been on a winning streak is Je’Von Evans.

“The Young OG” picked up consecutive victories on WWE Raw over both Ethan Page and JD McDonagh.

While he is embroiled in a feud with Big Cass right now, it still seems Evans knows the WWE Intercontinental Championship is in his future.

Evans might have his best chance now after his recent wins to get another crack at the IC Title again.

3. Big Cass

Speaking of Je’Von Evans, he has found himself as the first rival of Big Cass following his WWE return.

After eight years away from the promotion, Cass made his WWE return on the August 3 post-SummerSlam 2026 edition of Monday Night Raw.

Looking to redeem himself, Cass could set his sights on championship gold next.

Wanting to get his hands on his first singles title, Big Cass could take aim at Chad Gable’s Intercontinental Championship on his return tour.

2. Jacob Fatu

There is no denying that Jacob Fatu is one of WWE’s most featured stars on the roster.

While he started out 2026 as one of the hottest names in the company, Fatu has been forced to fall in line with The Bloodline.

Acknowledging Roman Reigns and joining his family, “The Samoan Werewolf” might want to solidify his position within the faction with a championship.

Fatu could find himself back on good terms with “The OTC” after winning the IC Title.

1. El Grande Americano

At AAA Noche de Los Grandes 2026, El Grande Americano defeated The Original El Grande Americano to win the Mask vs. Mask Match.

Due to this loss, Original El Grande unmasked to reveal himself to be Chad Gable.

After this reveal, Gable returned to WWE a changed man, wanting to make amends with the luchadors, redeem himself to the fans and complete unfinished business with the Intercontinental Championship.

Following his title win, Gable might want to avenge his loss to Americano for the IC gold.
