AEW
Former AEW Women’s World Champion Saraya star has officially announced her departure from the company.
In the months since her last AEW match in October 2024, there has been much speculation regarding the future of Saraya in the company.
When speaking publicly regarding her absence, Saraya said that she was on a mutually agreed break from AEW, however, comments made this week suggested that her time in the company was potentially set to come to an end.
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, Saraya has now confirmed that she and AEW have parted ways, announcing the news via the premiere episode of her Rulebreakers with Saraya podcast, which is set to air tomorrow (March 27).
At the end of the episode Saraya announced:
“I’m here to tell you that me and AEW’s relationship has come to an end, I had an amazing time there. There’s no bad blood between us. I had such a magical time.”
Saraya then explained how she wanted to take time off from AEW around the holidays for personal reasons, but eventually came around to the decision that she wanted to exit.
She continued:
“And then I got to thinking — what is there left for me to do in wrestling right now? Right now, there’s really no storylines where I would fit in.”
Saraya then clarified that her decision had “nothing to do” with Tony Khan, saying:
“It’s just me thinking that I just don’t fit in right now. I feel like I might be taking someone else’s spot, someone who could be doing something really special.”
Saraya would also leave the door open to a return to AEW in the future, expressing how much she enjoyed her time in the company:
“That’s not to say I will never come back to AEW — I absolutely love it, but I’m taking a little step back and focusing on myself for a bit, and putting my energy into the podcast with all the crew here. What a wonderful crew I have here.”
“Thank you, AEW. Thank you to the AEW fans — I loved my f—ing time there.
“Tony’s f—ing awesome. And anyone that goes to work there will just enjoy their time. It’s just great. And I’ll miss the girls’ locker room. I’ll miss you, but don’t be a f—ing stranger! You know where I am. I see some of you outside the company anyway.”
After Entertainment Weekly’s story was published Saraya took to Twitter to further comment on her AEW exit, writing:
“It’s mutual! But I loved my time at AEW and I had such a blast with the girls there. It’ll hold a special place in my heart. Tony was a great, AEW was great. I feel so lucky to be apart of this family for a couple years.
Here’s to 2025! Wtf am I gonna get myself into now”
While Saraya has recently teased retirement from the ring, the former Paige recently admitted that she was open to making a return to WWE.
Saraya joined AEW in September 2022, making her debut at Full Gear 2022 against Britt Baker, which was also her first match in five years after previously being forced into retirement due to injury in late 2017.
She departs the company as with one AEW Women’s World Championship reign to her name, having won the title at AEW All In London in August 2023.
We will provide updates on Saraya’s AEW departure and future in pro wrestling as more information becomes available.
