John Cena recently visited the training school of fellow WWE star Seth Rollins, spending five hours with students at Black and Brave Academy.
Having retired at Saturday Night’s Main Event in December of last year, John Cena continues to be a presence in WWE, with a recently announced Classic seeing main roster and NXT stars face off in an as-yet-undetermined manner.
No stranger to sharing his considerable knowledge with potential future stars, John Cena recently visited Seth Rollins’ Black and Brave Wrestling School.
According to a post on the Black and Brave Wrestling School Instagram account, Cena spent five hours with the students, sharing insights and experience, and an additional hour sharing his time with graduates one-on-one.
The post reads:
“We were honored to welcome the incomparable @johncena to the Black and Brave Wrestling Academy today!
“John spent 5 hours teaching, coaching, and answering questions and then spent an additional hour giving 1-on-1 time to many of our graduates.
“We cannot thank him enough for his incredible generosity.”
Cena has previously been seen at the Lodestone seminar, led by Bayley, sharing his knowledge with the all-female attendees.
Discussing post-retirement projects, Cena would note that he wants to leave the business in a better place than how he found it.
The John Cena Classic Challenges Convention
Although little is known of how the John Cena Classic will be delivered, it has been established that main roster stars will face their NXT counterparts, with fans voting for the star who will eventually be declared champion.
When it comes to the Classic itself, Cena has admitted that “there’s still a lot to do” when it comes to figuring out how the whole fan vote element works, although the main roster vs. NXT star element harks back to the December 13 Saturday Night’s Main Event, which saw exhibition matches follow that very format.
WWE have used ‘fan votes’ previously, with the NXT End of Year Awards being decided by the fans through voting. There was also Taboo Tuesday and Cyber Sunday in the early 2000s, which saw fans vote on match stipulations. That said, the sports entertainment nature of WWE does potentially lend itself to questions over the legitimacy of any fan-driven interaction.
Then there’s the potential for the other John Cena initiative, Club WWE, to play into proceedings, with details of the new membership program slowly emerging after being announced on April 14.
Club WWE “brings fans closer” than ever before, while the John Cena Classic promises to engage the same fanbase in a decision-making capacity. The two could very much be tied together, particularly given Club WWE’s focus on community.
