WWE
Looking at the free agency market, there are quite a few former WWE Tag Team Champions who are currently available.
WWE has been recently adding new talent to their ranks for both the main roster and the NXT brand.
From legendary stars to established names in wrestling, these former tag champs could make their way back to the promotion in the near future.
Here are eight former WWE Tag Team Champions to potentially re-sign with the company.
8. Uncle Howdy (Bo Dallas)
On April 24, WWE announced their latest round of talent cuts with 24 wrestlers being released with the company.
Among the names being released, Uncle Howdy and the rest of The Wyatt Sicks was one of the more notable stars to be cut from their contracts.
While the company just released the group, Howdy, better known as Bo Dallas, feels like someone who will make their way back to WWE down the line.
With two runs under his belt already, Dallas could kickstart his third run with WWE in the near future where he might finally fulfill his potential and continue to honor the legacy of his brother Bray Wyatt.
7. Billy Gunn
Over the past seven years, Billy Gunn has worked with All Elite Wrestling in a backstage role and as an on-screen character.
After first coming in as a coach, Gunn would become a manager to his sons Austin and Colten. Then, Gunn formed an alliance with The Acclaimed’s Max Caster and Anthony Bowns.
Following their run as the AEW World Tag Team Champions, The Acclaimed teamed with Gunn to also become AEW World Trios Champions.
After this trio went their separate ways, it feels like Gunn doesn’t have a way to make a return to WWE TV and considering his friends behind-the-scenes in WWE, it would make sense for the former Tag Team Champion to make his return to the promotion.
6. Tyler Breeze
Despite being released from WWE in 2021, Tyler Breeze has stayed connected with the company over the years.
Coming back into the promotion with the UpUpDownDown YouTube channel, Breeze has played his role on the popular gaming content.
However, Breeze has stepped in the ring again for several different wrestling promotions and has a training school as well.
Re-signing as a coach or even an in-ring competitor, Breeze can offer a great deal to the company in a variety of different ways if they see fit to give him the opportunity.
5. Braun Strowman
Back in May 2025, Braun Strowman had to be the biggest star included in WWE’s mass talent cuts.
The former WWE Universal Champion is someone who made his mark due to his sheer size, power, strength and unbridled rage.
Considering his continued connection with the company through his “Everything On The Menu with Braun Strowman” eating show, it would make sense for “The Monster Among Men” to make a return to WWE.
With his experience and accolades, Strowman could be an excellent addition to the WWE roster and someone who can offer a lot to the current crop of talent.
4. Shayna Baszler
Another WWE star who was released during the May 2025 talent cuts is Shayna Baszler.
The former multi-time WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion has continued to have a presence in the promotion, making multiple appearances since her release.
Whether it be coming to the Performance Center to help train recruits to appearing in a segment with Kelani Jordan ahead of her NXT Underground Match, Baszler feels like someone who could easily make a comeback in WWE.
Baszler re-signing with the company would be interesting to see where she can contribute with her believability and history of helping out as a coach.
3. Dakota Kai (Charlie)
The most shocking name included in the WWE releases from May 2025 was undoubtedly Dakota Kai.
Regarded as one of the reliable and underrated in-ring performers in the WWE women’s division, many fans were disappointed to see Kai leave the promotion.
For over a year, Dakota did not appear in any company until making her in-ring return as Charlie against Kris Statlander at the EVE: Wrestle Queendom VIII event.
Showing that she had little to no ring rust, it might be the right time for WWE to bring Dakota back into the fold where she could be a valuable asset for the women’s division.
2. The Hardys (Matt & Jeff Hardy)
With 30 years in the wrestling business, The Hardys are still going strong and recognized as one of the best tag teams in the industry.
Matt and Jeff Hardy have been two of the biggest stars on the TNA Wrestling roster since making their return to the promotion in 2024.
In 2025, The Hardys also made their return to WWE as part of their working relationship with TNA and won the NXT Tag Team Championships.
With their in-ring career winding down, The Hardys might want to close out their legendary run in the business back home in WWE sooner rather than later.
1. Kairi Sane
With the most recent set of releases from WWE, no one was more surprising to see included in these cuts more than Kairi Sane.
The former three-time WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion was embroiled in a story with Asuka in the Kabuki Warriors where “The Empress of Tomorrow” was the domineering senpai to Sane.
Considering this story looks to be culminating with Asuka facing IYO SKY at WWE Backlash 2026, it feels like there might be a chance that the company might bring Kairi back.
Whether it be showing her loyalty to Asuka or finally standing up for herself, the fans have shown they want to see Kairi return to WWE and might force the company’s hand to bring the Joshi legend back in the promotion.
