WWE Backlash is only just over a week away, which means there should be some matches from the SmackDown brand added to the lineup.
Coming off the heels of WrestleMania 42, there are several intriguing bouts that might take place in Tampa, Florida on May 9.
From titles being up for grabs to grudges being settled, the Backlash card will have some contests that hold heavy significance to how SmackDown will look for the rest of the year.
Here are seven WWE SmackDown matches to potentially be added to WWE Backlash 2026.
WWE Women’s Championship: Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Jacy Jayne

Jacy Jayne and the rest of Fatal Influence made their WWE SmackDown debut on the first show after WrestleMania 42
On the April 24 WWE SmackDown After WrestleMania 42, Fatal Influence made their official main roster debut.
Stepping up to confront WWE Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley, Jacy Jayne, Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid showcased what made them the most dominant faction on NXT for over a year.
Jayne, in particular, showed why she sat atop of the NXT women’s division by going toe-to-toe with Ripley in singles action.
After the disqualification result courtesy of interference from Henley and Reid, Jayne could get a rematch with the WWE Women’s Championship on the line at Backlash 2026.
WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship: Paige & Brie Bella (c) vs. Fatal Influence (Fallon Henley & Lainey Reid)

Paige made her return to WWE in-ring competition at WrestleMania 42 after retiring back in 2018
Besides their confrontation with Rhea Ripley, Fatal Influence also made a statement in the tag team division as well.
Making their first appearance on SmackDown, Jacy Jayne, Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid attacked Paige, Brie Bella, Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss during their tag team match.
This attack could lead to a showdown with the reigning WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Paige and Brie.
WWE Backlash 2026 could see Paige and Bella cement their reign with their first defense or see Fatal Influence capture the tag titles for the first time.
Danhausen vs The Miz

Danhausen invaded The Miz’s home on the April 24 episode of WWE SmackDown
Over the past month, Danhausen has made The Miz’s life a living hell in a variety of ways.
From cursing “The A Lister” and costing him the WWE Tag Team Titles to ruining his second wedding and invading his home, Danhausen has been a thorn in The Miz’s side as of late.
On the April 24 WWE SmackDown After WrestleMania 42, Danhausen added insult to injury by defeating The Miz in singles competition.
To finally put a bow on this feud, The Miz needs to challenge Danhausen to one more clash at the WWE Backlash 2026 premium live event.
Royce Keys vs. Solo Sikoa

Royce Keys was greeted by Solo Sikoa after he won the 2026 Andre the Giant Battle Royal
On the April 17 edition of Friday Night SmackDown, Royce Keys won the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal by eliminating Talla Tonga in the final moments.
Since arriving on the blue brand, Keys has turned a lot of heads with the fans as well as the locker room.
Over the past few weeks, fans have seen Solo Sikoa seemingly trying to recruit Keys to The MFTs.
Despite their history with one another outside of the ring, Keys could potentially turn down the offer into The MFTs, which set up a showdown with the group’s leader in Tampa at Backlash.
WWE Women’s United States Championship: Tiffany Stratton (c) vs. Giulia

Tiffany Stratton began her first reign as Women’s United States Champion on April 24
On the April 24 WWE SmackDown After WrestleMania 42, Tiffany Stratton defeated Giulia to win the WWE Women’s United States Championship.
After weeks of chasing the title, Stratton finally has gold once again, which will not make Giulia pleased at all.
With her frustrations growing after being left off the WrestleMania 42 card, “The Beautiful Madness” will be hellbent to regain her gold.
Stratton defending her newly won title against the former champion at WWE Backlash 2026 should make for an intriguing battle that might be among the best on the card.
WWE United States Championship: Trick Williams (c) vs. Sami Zayn

Sami Zayn and Trick Williams have been undergoing a double turn on WWE SmackDown in recent weeks
At WWE WrestleMania 42 Night Two, Trick Williams defeated Sami Zayn to win the United States Championship.
To get a measure of revenge, Zayn dressed up as the Gingerbread Man and initiated a sneak attack on both Williams as well as Lil Yachty on the SmackDown After Mania.
Following this attack, Trick will now be looking to get his hands on Sami once again, leading to a rematch on May 9.
Williams battling Zayn for the US Title should further progress the slow burn double turn that has seen Trick being embraced by the fans, while Sami should go further down the path of becoming a villain to the audience once again.
Undisputed WWE Championship Last Man Standing Match: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Randy Orton

Although Cody Rhodes retained the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 42, Randy Orton was the last man standing
WrestleMania 42 Night One closed with Cody Rhodes defeating Randy Orton to retain the Undisputed WWE Championship.
However, Orton got the last laugh when he blasted Rhodes with the title belt and delivered a Punt Kick to “The American Nightmare.”
This should set the stage for these two former friends battling once more for the Undisputed WWE Championship at Backlash 2026.
Rhodes defending the gold against Orton in a Last Man Standing Match would make for a tantalizing main event that could close the door on this rivalry that has spanned the past few months.
