WWE
Just three weeks after WrestleMania 42, WWE returns with another premium live event as they present Backlash 2026 from Tampa, Florida.
The company announced that the first hour of this major show will air live on ESPN 2, which will make it interesting how the match order will be on Saturday, May 9.
Considering the five-match card scheduled for this weekend, the show might depend on how WWE decides to pace this lineup and which matches open or close in Tampa.
Here are our predictions for the WWE Backlash 2026 match order.
Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker
At WWE WrestleMania 42 Night One, GUNTHER defeated Seth Rollins thanks in large part to outside interference from the returning Bron Breakker.
Breakker was the man who orchestrated the betrayal of The Vision on their leader Seth Rollins in October 2025 that subsequently led to The Visionary being injured and having to relinquish the World Heavyweight Championship.
Rollins got a measure of revenge following the betrayal when he adorned a mask, cost Breakker the Men’s Royal Rumble Match and made The Vision’s lives a living hell for months.
Now that this singles showdown is finally set, there is no better way to kick off WWE Backlash in front of what is expected to be a large audience on ESPN 2.
WWE United States Championship: Trick Williams (c) vs. Sami Zayn

Trick Williams defeated Sami Zayn for the WWE US Championship at WrestleMania 42.
One of the new stars who walked out of WrestleMania 42 with more momentum than ever was Trick Williams.
During WrestleMania 42 Night Two, Williams defeated Sami Zayn to win the WWE United States Championship, but this rivalry was far from over.
Over the past few weeks, fans have seen Zayn dress as the Gingerbread Man to attack Trick and Lil Yachty before assaulting the costume. Williams responded by selling the attack on the Gingerbread Man like it was a real murder and scheduling a funeral.
With as much animosity between these two men and the popularity of Williams, it seems like a no-brainer for WWE to include this Trick vs. Sami rematch during the ESPN 2 portion of this Saturday’s Backlash 2026 show.
Asuka vs. IYO SKY
Back in the fall of 2025, Asuka turned on IYO SKY over her jealousy of her protegè’s success and her friendship with Rhea Ripley.
Pitting her friend Kairi Sane against The Genius of the Sky, Asuka took the family in WWE that SKY thought she had and battled her as well as Ripley on several occasions.
Despite feuding for many months, IYO never went one-on-one with Asuka until WWE Backlash 2026.
Now with Kairi no longer with the company, it will be a highly personal singles match between Asuka and IYO that would be a perfect mid-point to this card.
Danhausen & Mystery Partner vs. The Miz & Kit Wilson

Danhausen made his WWE debut at Elimination Chamber, revealed to be inside the mystery crate
Since making his WWE debut earlier this year, Danhausen has become a thorn in the side of The Miz over on Friday Night SmackDown.
After The A Lister refused to become Danhausen’s mentor, the new star cursed The Miz, as well as his actual protegè, Kit Wilson.
Following Danhausen visiting his home, ruining his second wedding to Maryse and his WrestleMania moment, The Miz orchestrated a two-on-one attack with Wilson on “The Very Nice, Very Evil” star.
Now that he must find a mystery partner for this tag team match at WWE Backlash 2026, Danhausen’s premium live event in-ring debut feels like a fitting choice for the semi-main event of the May 9 event.
WWE World Heavyweight Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Jacob Fatu
At WWE WrestleMania 42 Night Two, Roman Reigns defeated CM Punk to win the World Heavyweight Championship.
Then on the following day’s WWE Raw After WrestleMania 42, Jacob Fatu stepped up to Reigns to challenge him for his newly won title at Backlash 2026.
Things quickly got personal between the two family members with Fatu’s pursuit of everything The OTC has and use of the Tongan Death Grip got under Roman’s skin.
WWE has confirmed that this will be the main event of Backlash 2026, making it the most high profile and high stakes bout of the entire card in Tampa, Florida this Saturday.
