WWE NXT General Manager Robert Stone has addressed Zilla Fatu competing for the NXT Championship in his debut match.

Zilla Fatu made his WWE debut during the August 11 NXT episode, attacking Grayson Waller and Cruz Montana and forcing their NXT Championship #1 contender’s match to end via no-contest.

The Anoa’i family member officially signed with the NXT brand during the August 18 show, during which Robert Stone added Zilla Fatu to the NXT Championship match at Heatwave, with Tony D’Angelo now to defend his gold against, Grayson, Cruz and Zilla.

Stone took to Twitter to comment on Zilla Fatu’s upcoming WWE in-ring debut, writing:

To sign a BIG time talent ya gotta make a BIG time offer.

@Zillafatu gets an NXT Title match in his 1st match! Heatwave just got hotter.

Pointing out the historical significance of Zilla Fatu’s inclusion, Robert Stone later wrote:

GM’ing at @WWENXT means constantly thinking outside the box to make Tuesdays the best they can be.

Which means sometimes, ya gotta make history.

Sure, it’s happened in WCW. But in WWE, correct me if I’m wrong, @Zillafatu will be the first competitor ever to have their first match be for a top championship.

Many fans were quick to point out that Ethan Page actually challenged for Trick Williams’ NXT Championship at Battleground 2024 in what was All Ego’s first match for the brand.

Even so, Zilla Fatu competing for a top title in his WWE in-ring debut is very rare, with even Kevin Owens – who won the NXT Championship from Sami Zayn at NXT TakeOver: Rival 2015 – having five matches in the two months with the company ahead of his successful NXT Title challenge.

WWE has presented Zilla Fatu very strongly since his first appearance, with AJ Styles – who produced the #1 contender’s match which ended with Zilla’s debut – stating that the Bloodline family member already looks like a star.

With Zilla Fatu being directly related to Roman Reigns, Jacob Fatu, The Usos and Solo Sikoa, Bully Ray recently stated that he wouldn’t be surprised if WWE brought the new signee to the main roster to join the ongoing Bloodline storyline, following Solo Sikoa attacking Roman Reigns on Raw.
