Kyle Fletcher has addressed his return at AEW Double or Nothing, having been absent from in-ring action since being sidelined with injury.

Injured in a match on March 28, Kyle Fletcher would be forced to relinquish his TNT Championship, with a previous report noting he would be out of action for ‘months’.

An in-ring return may be some time off yet, but Fletcher returned at AEW Double or Nothing on May 24, betraying Konosuke Takeshita, the new International Champion.

Speaking about his return at the recent return in an episode of his Protolog, Fletcher would share his feelings during his appearance at Louis Armstrong Stadium in New York, saying:

“It’s a very weird feeling, you feel like you build up this moment for so long and then even two, three minutes just feels like it goes by in a blink of an eye. That’s really what it felt like.

“What just an absolute overwhelming flush of emotions. I wasn’t out for a long time, I was only out for eight weeks or two months. I didn’t even feel like a pro wrestler anymore. I felt like a dude that just stayed at home on his couch and worked out. That’s about all I did for the last two months.

“So, for that to go as well as it did… Not really much more to say, I’m a little bit speechless. It feels pretty cool, man.”

In the vlog, Fletcher revealed that he had suffered a torn meniscus, a fracture at the top of his tibia and an ankle fracture, with eight weeks of rehab getting him cleared by his physical therapist and seemingly avoiding the need for surgery for the tear.

At the time of writing, Fletcher has not been cleared by AEW medical professionals for an in-ring return.

The Run Of His AEW Career Ended Too Soon

Kyle Fletcher was experiencing a wave of momentum prior to being sidelined, not only as the TNT Champion but as a star in his own right.

Making his AEW debut in June 2022, the association with Will Ospreay would give him an instant rub, alongside Mark Davis, who would later suffer an injury of his own, leading to a singles run for his Aussie Open teammate.

No longer “just a tag team wrestler”, Fletcher showed his potential as a singles competitor, leading to his first reign as TNT Champion. More than this, though, it was his bitter feud with Ospreay that arguably sent Fletcher into a new era of his own, seeing him eventually emerge from the shadow of the Aerial Assassin.

At WrestleDream in October 2024, Fletcher turned his back on his former friend, adopting a new look that saw him shave his own head, a renewed intensity and a far more engaging persona for the star. While there’s every chance that Fletcher could revisit his anomisity towards Ospreay in the future, their feud ended at last year’s Revolution in a steel cage loss to the Australian star.

After shaving his head, Fletcher was compared to Randy Orton, with the AEW star stating it was a “nice comparison“, revealing how it led to the decision to adopt pink as the key color in his own presentation.

Pink themed to this day, Fletcher continues to define his journey as his own person, something that will no doubt continue when he’s cleared for an in-ring return.
